Albania, the destination with the highest growth for tourism, but among the last for passports

Albania is the country that had the best tourism performance in 2023, according to the data made public by Schengen Visa Info.

In the graph published by this site, our country had the highest increase in travel with 53% in 2023. In second place is Andorra, with a 31% increase, followed by Liechtenstein (16%), Iceland (15%) and Serbia (15%).

In recent years, Albania has been in the attention of the world media and social networks for its natural beauty, the many tourism alternatives, from sea, mountain, adventure, culture, attracting citizens from all over the world.

In 2023, according to INSTAT data, over 10 million tourists visited the country, with a 35% increase from the previous year.

The same trend continued in the first months of 2024, where 1.5 million entries of foreign citizens were registered for January-March, with an increase of 43%. The introduction of low-cost airlines at Rinas Airport also had an impact on this flow.

Among the last for passports

While for foreigners, Albania is a “paradise”, the Albanians themselves are not very favored to travel, although for years the visa regime with EU and other countries has been removed.

According to data from Schengen Visa Info, Albania has one of the weakest passports in Europe, according to the VisaGuide Passport Index, May 2024. The country is ranked 82nd in the world and fourth from the bottom in Europe. Albania leaves behind Moldova (88), Kosovo (97) and the last is Belarus (109).
