Experts reveal the best place for stargazing on Earth

The best place in the world to see the sky is a point on the Antarctic plate, the coldest place on Earth, where the stars seem to twinkle less.

Area A or ‘Argus’ — located in the center of East Antarctica at a level 4 km above sea level — experiences temperatures as low as -98 degrees Celsius.

Researchers from Australia and China modeled and built a small telescope system in an ice core, where atmospheric turbulence is low.

This turbulence, which causes light to refract, makes the stars appear brighter from Earth and not as clear as they should be.
